Media - Stabbing on campus
On Friday November 21, 2014, the Guelph Police and GWEMS were called to the University of Guelph where it was reported that a male university student had been stabbed. The Investigative Services Unit took over this investigation and it has been determined that this was a targeted robbery and at no time were there any concerns for student safety or public safety. The suspect was not a university of Guelph student, and it was learned that he has recently moved to the Guelph area, from Mississauga.
The investigative team worked diligently throughout the weekend and at 1:00 p.m. on November 23, 2014, an 18-year-old male, was arrested. He has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of stolen property and weapons dangerous to the public peace. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on November 24, 2014.
The victim in this incident remains in a stable condition in a Hamilton hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim will be undergoing corrective surgery in the next few days.
