STOP Theft

Posted on Sunday, November 11th, 2012

If you own a laptop or other piece of important technology, you have legitimate concerns about security.  STOP’s only mission is the protection of your property through a combination of theft prevention, asset management and equipment recovery.

The STOP (Security Tracking of Office Property) program has been successfully implemented at hundreds of Universities across Canada and the United States and is a strong deterrent for potential thieves.

The plate is affixed to the surface with special glue.  Removing the plate after is very difficult and causes damage to the surface.  A demo video of someone attempting to remove the plate is posted in this URL listed below.

The University of Guelph Campus Community Police will be giving resident students an opportunity to purchase STOP plates for only $10.00 (half of the regular price) at three locations in the coming weeks.

They include:

Mountain Hall cafeteria lobby – Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 3:30pm-5:30pm

Lennox cafeteria lobby – Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 3:30pm-5:30pm

Creelman cafeteria lobby – Thursday, Nov. 22 from 11:00am-2:00pm

An officer will be on hand at the above-mentioned locations to install a STOP plate on your laptop, iPod or any other computer equipment you value.

The normal price for a STOP plate is $20.00 but during these three days the plates have been discounted to only $10.00,  a small price to pay for a piece of mind.
